Help a family who's endured the unimaginable

The death of 5-year old Ethan Hansen from Tigard has really hit home with me, as I'm sure it has with you. On June 20, Ethan was camping with family and friends when an enormous tree branch fell on his tent and crushed his skull. Since his injuries were limited to his head, his family was able to donate his heart, kidneys and liver to save the lives of others. Ethan's dad was laid off from his job in May and family's medical insurance ran out at the end of the month. If you have a few bucks to spare, stop by Washington Mutual or Bank of America and contribute to the Ethan Hansen Family Fund. 

Spring break showers? Craft a garden instead

The Tigard Public Library will host a free crafting event for kids age 5 and up. Kids decorate a pot, plant, flower and eat "dirt." From 2-4pm on Thursday, March 29. Call 503-684-6547 for more info.

Arabesque. Pirouette. First position. Put on your tutu. Hard to believe I took 15 years of ballet lessons and that's all I can remember. (By the way, wikipedia has a great glossary of ballet terms that helped refresh my memory on how to spell these tricky French words).

Regardless, my girls and I loooove ballet, and events where we can see real ballerinas.

Oregon Ballet Theater dancers will dance at the Tigard Public Library on Tuesday, March 13 from 7-8pm. This event is free and appropriate for all ages. Call the Tigard library for more info at 503-684-6537.

The Tigard Public Library offers a variety of age-appropriate story times on a weekly basis:

Book Babies (0-18 months): Babies and their caregivers share books, finger plays, rhymes and songs
Tuesdays, 10:15-10:45am

Toddler Time (18-36 months): Simple stories, songs, finger plays and activities
Wednesdays, 10:30-11am

Preschool (ages 3-6): Longer stories, music and interactive activities to explore early literacy skills
Mondays, 10:30-11:15am and Tuesdays, 11:15am-noon
