Are you loving all of this???
One of the things I like most about all the snow is that there are so few cars on the road. Check out Sunset Drive yesterday:
Only the bravest drivers are out there in their big rigs. Quite a few low-hung cars were stuck in drifts. My family walked into Hillsdale yesterday to get groceries at Food Front, and it was so quiet outside. Everyone was so happy to be out and amongst people again. In typical fashion, we ran into Renee at the store, and it was like we'd been apart for ages (well, over a week, which is ages for us). Mike Roach, owner of Paloma Clothing, was out in the parking lot, single-handedly trying to shovel it out. Bless that man.
We sledded home three bags of groceries from Food Front. (No, that's not my house.) Doesn't this feel like we're all on vacation? I mean, it is vacation from school, but we are eating like we're on vacation: lots of cheese with baguettes; cured meats; cookies for breakfast; buttered noodles for dinner. I can't remember the last time I had a vegetable. We are living in our pj's, until it's time to bundle up and head outside. Spontaneous naps abound.
I am loving all the snow and this diversion from the normal routine. There are a few things I'd still like to pick up for Christmas, but eh, if it doesn't happen that's fine, too. The kids are so happy -- amazing how long they can play outside in the cold! The house is cozy with Christmas and lights and fires in the fireplace. It feels almost surreal.
Renee and I wish you all peace and joy (and electricity) this holiday season! Cheers!

The funniest thing I've been doing is running, yes, running to the front window every time I *think* I hear a car coming. "Look kids! It's one of them new-fangled driving machines!!" A week into the snow I am somewhat at peace. We're making the best of it and happy to have power and the high-speed internet connection. Sad we'll probably not make it to church on Christmas eve. But oh well. What can you do? I imagine we'll dust off our family Bible and watch the Pope on tv? 2008 will be remembered, that's for sure.

I am a bit jealous. Living in North Florida and having Christmas in shorts and flip flops may sound inviting, BUT it sure doesn't feel Christmassy. God bless you all in the frozen white North, and may you stay warm through it all! ~J
