Multnomah Village gets a farmers market! (and other SW news)

How cool is that?! The market will be held on Thursdays from 3:30-7:30pm starting June 5. Location: under the outdoor, covered basketball court next to the Multnomah Arts Center. The folks behind the effort decided to have it on Thursdays to complement the Hillsdale Farmers Market, which is held on Sundays. Run out of fresh produce mid-week? No problem. You won't have to go far to get it.

Looks like Food Front is thisclose to signing a lease for the old Wild Oats space in Hillsdale. They hope to open this August! Once they sign that lease, this mom will be sending in her membership dues pronto. I think it will be incredibly exciting to have a food co-op in the hood.

Dava Bead & Trade is closing its shop in Hillsdale and will be moving to a big new space on NE Broadway. A yoga studio is moving into the Dava space! Sacred Onion Yoga is moving from its little space in Vermont Hills to set up shop in Hillsdale. Good vibes all around, folks.

Yipppeee! Food Front is coming:

Dear Food Front Hillsdale Supporters:

It’s a go! We are so excited to announce that we will be opening our second grocery store in the Hillsdale Shopping Center in late summer.
We know most of you have been patiently waiting for us to complete our evaluation of the site. Our board approved the project in April and we are preparing a formal, public announcement on:

Monday, May 12, at 10am, right in front of the store. We are asking those of you who are able, to show up and express your support for the store.

Eamon Malloy, president of the Hillsdale Farmers Market will sign up as a member-owner at the announcement event. And so can you! If you can’t make it Monday morning, you can also look for us at the Farmers Market starting May 18.

We have a few improvements to make to the store (flooring, lighting, shelving, equipment) but we won’t be doing any major remodeling as we want to be open for you as soon as possible. We’ll keep you posted as the opening day approaches. In the meantime, there are several things you can do to help:

1. Become a Food Front owner! Owner shares (also known as member shares) are the foundation of a co-op and are the principal way we raise capital to keep our co-op healthy and vibrant. 2. Email us and let us know what products you are looking for. It might be helpful to visit our NW store at 2375 NW Thurman St and check out our offerings.

3. Tell your friends! In order for the Hillsdale store to succeed, we'll need people to support it by shopping regularly.
