Today is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
My son spent several such days at my husband's office when we lived in San Francisco. They were fun activity-filled days and a chance to see how his dad spent his working hours in a downtown high-rise office building.
Now my husband works at home. I'm a stay-at-home mom. My two kids see us at work each and every day. Going to work with one of us? Not so exciting, I'm thinking.
According to the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day website, the mission of the day is this:
Exposing girls and boys to what a parent or mentor in their lives do during the work day is important, but showing them the value of their education, helping them discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life, providing them an opportunity to share how they envision the future and begin steps toward their end goals in a hands-on and interactive environment is key to their achieving success.
So even though my kids won't be visiting us at the office or restaurant or store or school that we work at, we are fulfilling the spirit of the day. Not just one day a year, but every day.
What are your kids doing today?
