Chicken Fest 2008, Livingscape Nursery. Friday-Sunday (see site for hours). Everything you ever wanted to know about raising chickens in the city but were afraid to ask. Ask the 'Eggspert' on Saturday from 10am-Noon, check out all the chickens and take a few workshops. Workshops are $5, but if you just want to stop by and see the chickens it's FREE. 3926 N. Oaks Park Spring Break, Oaks Park. Friday-Sunday 10am-5pm. The rides are open during Spring Break (brrr) and Safeway Club cardholders can get in on a buy-one-get-one-free ride bracelets, roller rink admission and junk food. Regular ride bracelets start at $11.25 each.
Energy Trust Better Living Show, Portland Expo Center. Friday-Sunday (see site for hours). Experience a jam-packed schedule of presentations, seminars, cooking demos and kid activities at this event promoting eco-friendly living. FREE. 2060 N. Marine Dr.
Teen Lounge, Southwest Community Center. Friday, 6-9pm. Kids ages 12-17 can hang out and play ping pong, foosball, video games, air hockey and other games and watch a movie in a chaperoned environment. $2 per child. 6820 SW 45th.
SOLV Spring Beach Clean-up, Oregon Coast. Saturday, 10am-1pm. Help keep our beaches clean and free of litter and debris. Check out the site map for locations and print and fill out the registration forms beforehand to avoid the long lines.
Guided Nature Walk, Tryon Creek State Park. Saturday, 10-11:30am. Learn all about Owls, the silent hunters of the night. We hear the hoo-hoo of owls at our house every once in awhile and it is just thrilling knowing that they are out there. Tryon is such a great park for kids since the trails are short and well-maintained. FREE, and no advance registration required. 11321 SW Terwilliger.
Captain Bogg & Salty Performance, Oregon Zoo. Saturday, 12:30pm and 2pm. Maybe if it's nice...you'll be at the zoo...and you can do a little jig to this much-loved pirate band. Free with zoo admission.
Hillsdale Farmers Market, Rieke Elementary Parking Lot. Sunday 10am-2pm. Asparagus, spinach, root veggies, bison, elk, chicken, duck, fish, cheese, bread...it's all good. Check out all the early spring offerings.
Trillium Lecture, Tryon State Park. Sunday, 2-3pm. Appropriate for ages 12 and up. Trillium, a native plant, will start popping up in our woodlands (and backyards) in April. Learn more about this lovely plant and why it's celebrated each spring. FREE, no advance registration required. 11321 SW Terwilliger.
Music of Portland, Central Library, Sunday 2-3pm. All ages are welcome to enjoy violinist Ann Christensen and pianist Lisa Bergman perform music from their CD, "American Music: Jazz, Broadway, Hollywood." Expect an upbeat program, and the small venue is great for kids to experience musicianship close-up and personal. FREE. First come, first-served seating in the Collins Gallery. 801 SW 10th.
