If you've spent any time in the school cafeteria, you know that the quality of food hasn't changed a whole lot since we were in school. EcoTrust is urging Oregonians to urge legislators to pass the Farm-to-School program, also known as HB 3601, which will provide resources to get the program underway. Legislators will probably vote on the bill February 14, so your immediate action is crucial. Imagine:
- Delicious and nutritious Oregon food served up on the lunch plates of every Oregon student.
- Garden-based teaching in all subject areas so our children experience the magic of growing, tasting and enjoying wholesome food.
- Oregon farmers, food processors and manufacturers selling great food to Oregon schools.
Don't know who your state rep is? Plug in your address and find out! Send them an email that says something like, "I am extremely concerned about the poor quality of food served in my child's school. Our children deserve fresh, local foods and nutritional education in order to combat obesity, help them make better food choices and support their overall health. Please support HB 3601!"
