Don't you love it when your kids find something to do that's creative, that doesn't require your help and that lasts for more than a few minutes? Maybe enough time to make a phone call, pay your bills online, write out some holiday cards? (Or sneak a few Christmas cookies in private?)
My current favorite activity (which is occupying my 4-year-old as I write) -- window clings. They're like removable stickers for your windows. Right now we have holiday ones, of course: snowflakes, snowmen, gingerbread men, wreaths and lots of little candies. Oh, and a few Blues Clues ones from a few years ago. My daughter is making a big snow scene, all the while talking out a sing-song story about a bunny playing with snowflakes and candy canes.
We bought a few new sheets of window clings the other night at Freddy's for $1.39 apiece. We get the ones with lots of little pieces so there are enough to go around and the two kids don't fight (much) over them. They make new scenes every day and any window will do, as long as you don't mind the fingerprints.
Just an activity that's working for me and I thought I'd pass on.
