Free Japanese Sing and Play Class for Toddlers

The International School is offering free Japanese "Sing and Play" classes for toddlers.  The classes will be taught in Japanese by native speakers.  No prior Japanese knowledge is required.  Classes will be held on Fridays (Jan. 16, 30 and Feb. 6) from 10 to 10:30.  Children ages 0-4 are welcome with a parent or caregiver.  For more information or to make a reservation contact Keiko (in English or Japanese) at 503-226-2496 x305 or KBuckendahl@intlschool.org  The International School is located at 025 SW Sherman Street, Portland, OR 97201.  For directions, visit our website http://www.intlschool.org/ and look under "Contact."

Lead-free family fair on Dec 3

The Oregon Center for Environmental Health is offering a day of interactive education, awareness, and action about lead on December 3, from 9am until 8pm. The Lead-Free Family fair will feature:

• free lead screening of household toys and dishware (limit four items per household) 
• a viewing of the HealthyToys.org database of safe toys
• free blood lead testing for pregnant and nursing mothers and kids under age 6 (offered from  4 pm to 6 pm only) from Josiah Hill Clinic
• non-toxic toys, baby gear, and household items for sale
• information about lead services from local agencies
• Information about upcoming legislation in Oregon to make children’s toys safer!

Open and free to everyone. Adults and children invited to participate.

Holiday Bazaar on Dec 6 @ Milagros to support Mercy Corps

Milagros is hosting a Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, December 6 from 11am – 3pm. More than a dozen local vendors will be selling a wide variety of hand-crafted items that will be great gifts for the little miracle and mamas in your life! Clothes, jewelry, toys and more will be featured at the Holiday Craft Bazaar. There will also complimentary refreshments, art activities for the kids and more. Admission to the event is free and families are very welcome. In addition to being a fun community event, the Holiday Bazaar is a fundraiser for locally-based non-profit Mercy Corps. Mercy Corps works to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression throughout the world by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. Milagros and all the vendors at the Holiday Bazaar will be donating 10 percent of their sales to support Mercy Corps. The Milagros Holiday Bazaar will be held inside and outside of Milagros at 5433 NE 30th Avenue.

Women's All Sizes Clothing Swap on Nov 15 in Scappoose

Clean out your closets! Bring your used, clean, in good condition (i.e., no rips, tears or stains) clothes and accessories (purses, belts, shoes, whatever) to the swap, sort it into the correct pile. It helps to have your items sorted before you arrive.

On my go, dig in. You get to take anything that fits you. Its a great way to recycle your gently worn things, and get a new wardrobe for Fall! This is completely free and open to all. Bring your friends! Bring your family! The more ladies, the better the selection!

Pedestrian Rights Clinic, Nov. 17

The Northeast Coalition of Neighbors and Willamette Pedestrian Coalition invite you to learn about your rights as a walker. Have you almost been hit crossing the street when walking or running?  Did you that pedestrians have the right of way in all crosswalks, marked and unmarked? Learn about the law, how to walk safe, and how to prosecute dangerous drivers.
 
Ray Thomas will present from "Oregon Pedestrian Rights: A Legal Guide for Persons on Foot". Books are available at the clinic. Child care is available.

Big Green Event @ PJA on Nov 16

The Portland Jewish Academy will host "The Big Green Event" on Sunday, November 16 from 12:30-3pm. The event will feature workshops on bike science, making crafts from recyclables, making your own beauty products, and decorating reuseable canvas tote bags. This event is open to all families with children middle-school age and younger. Please bring a can of food to benefit the Oregon Food Bank.
